This
painting is a special tribute to Shakespeare. His play
of the same name was written during his “Tragic
Period” (1600-1608) and first published in
the First Folio in 1623. Today it is classified as a “problem
play” because it cannot be neatly classified as
tragedy or comedy. |

“To
be at the end of your rope. The sun above you is dominant. Things
are not looking well, then a break". That scenario plays
out repeatedly in life’s boat.
It’s a great life – just don’t weaken. |

This
is a reminder to all of us about how inner struggles can
drive a person into great emotional pain. Self-inquisition
seems to be what we often do to ourselves much too often.
I don’t know anyone who has not persecuted themselves.

Atlas
is a figure from Greek mythology. He is the son of the Titan,
Japetus and an Oceanid, Clymene (or Asia). Atlas was punished
by the "father of Gods and men," Zeus, and made
to bear the weight of the heavens on his back on the top
of Mt. Tam. Atlas takes a break and dances with the world
(his mistaken burden). Man needs breaks. |

|
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll
and Mr. Hyde' is an 1886 novella written by Robert Louis
Stevenson, a Scottish author. The work is commonly known
today as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. A London lawyer named
Gabriel John Utterson investigates the strange occurrences
between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the Misanthropic
Edward Hyde. - |
|
~
Lou el Oso |
|
Misanthropy
is a generalized dislike, distrust, disgust, contempt and hatred
of the human species, human nature, and/or (human) society. A
misanthrope is someone who holds those views and feelings. The
word's origin is Greek: misos meaning hatred and anthropos meaning
a human being. You will note that there is a somewhat misunderstanding
by Dr. Jeckyll. |

Delphi
is a UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site and a town
in Greece near Mount Parnassus. - I pictured myself traveling
in 1BC. in ancient Greece, in the valley of Phocis in
order to view the site of Apollo, the slayer of Python,
the keeper of the Earth's navel. My painting represents
how I believe it would have been to actually look into
her, Apollo's priestess, Pythia's eyes…unearthly.
Would I have listened to my Oracle? |

In
his 1821 play, Almansor, the German writer Heinrich Heine,
referring to the burning of the Muslim holy book, the Qur'an,
during the Spanish inquisition wrote, "Where they burn
books, so too will they in the end burn human beings."
Over a century later, Heine's own books were among the thousands
of volumes that were torched by the Nazis in Berlin's Opernplatz.
Symbolizes Ignorance and mean spirit trying to burn knowledge
but true wisdom cannot be burned away. |

Reengineering Nature's Specificity and Efficacy |

Reengineering
nature is a heart-felt feeling
for me. We seem to be always messing around with nature
while never knowing what the final outcome could be. Having
been brought up in a time when plastics, deforestation,
and pollution are among the many atrocities done to nature,
gives me a distinct image of man pushing nature.

The
Universe expanded from an extremely hot, dense phase called
the Planck Epoch, in which
all the matter and energy of the observable Universe was
concentrated.
I
wanted to catch the natural power and flow of the earth
in unison with the heavens to give an overall feeling
of movement and oneness with our surroundings. Sometimes
the color and the beauty one sees every day are taken
for granted and overlooked.

Philostratus |

Flavius
Philostratus
(circa 170 AD) wrote the biography Life of Apollonius
of Tyana referring to the phoenix as a bird living in
India that sometimes migrated to Egypt on the order of
every five hundred years. This story evolved into the
mythical, sacred firebird with colorful plumae, which
builds itself a nest of myrrh twigs. When finished, both
the nest and bird ignite and burn fiercely - reduced to
ashes. But from these ashes, a new, young phoenix arises.
In popular culture this is referred to as The Phoenix
Rises Again (or The Phoenix Shall Rise Again).

religion, mythology, even occultism and folklore.
